Oceans of Energy is looking for a Junior Project Engineer to join our Projects Department. If you are passionate about renewable energy, possess strong technical expertise, and enjoy working for a scale up, then this is your chance! As our junior project engineer you will be important in coordinating the interface between Sales, Engineering, Project Management and Asset Management from a project execution perspective, and contribute to developing a delivery standard for future offshore solar projects. You will report to the Head of Projects at Oceans of Energy.

Oceans of Energy is a young, passionate and fast-growing company. We installed the world’s first offshore solar farm in 2019 and have been operating it successfully in North Sea offshore conditions. It is our aim to enable the world to generate clean energy from the abundance of space at sea, instead of scarce land in densely populated coastal regions. Together with knowledge institutes, NGO’s and universities, we assess the impact on nature and marine life as well as to explore nature-enhancing opportunities around offshore solar. We are currently delivering a commercial project for the Hollandse Kust Noord project in The Netherlands, and we have a funnel of opportunities in North Sea and Mediterranean Sea locations.

Responsibilities and Tasks:
Your activities will include:
  • Build and install HKN1, the First of a Kind offshore solar farm, grid connected, remote controlled within a windfarm by summer-2025 and contribute to keep it operational as per contract with our client.
  • Analyze and prepare project specifications, writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, estimating materials, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, directing designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements, and the development of clarifications and exceptions as well as technical responses.
  • Provide support to Business Development department in tenders and subsidy requests, such as preparing method and execution statements.
  • Support the Sales department with concept/FEED study activities, collecting information from relevant engineers and dealing with client requests.
  • Collaborate with Design and Engineering experts (design engineers, hydrodynamic experts, mooring engineers, electrical experts, operations and maintenance engineers, etc).
  • Resolve project technical issues for the Customer and Project Manager.
  • Work with the Project Manager and Lead Engineer to maintain project man hour budget and schedule. Provide input to Project Manager and Project Controller regarding schedule and cost progress.
  • Supervise subcontractors regarding project-specific engineering scopes (mooring system analysis, dynamic cable design, installation engineering, etc).
  • Occasionally go offshore to support the execution / implementation of the scopes prepared by you.
  • Provide input to development of tools, methodologies, standards and procedures.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to offshore solar farm projects.

Job requirements

Qualifications and Skills:
The experience and capabilities you bring include
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (preferred), or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (1-3 years) in project engineering, preferably in the renewable energy sector with exposure to offshore installations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment, both independently and as part of a team; team player who is motivated to take on a technical challenge.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a hands-on approach to execution; self-starter with creative and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, native Dutch and fluent in English, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Willingness to travel to offshore locations as required.
