We installed the world’s first offshore solar farm in 2019. Our mission is to develop offshore energy solutions that work in harmony with nature, and we are committed to making offshore solar a highly valuable option for clean electricity generation.

We are looking for a Structural Engineer to strengthen our team, working on offshore solar projects in the Netherlands. As a Structural Engineer, you will be part of the design team and run design projects within different disciplines, from concept design to detailed design and design verification through testing. The role focuses on creating confidence in the structural performance of the system for long-term operation at sea. It also involves creating insights and models from data collected on our (pilot) systems and other sources to enable the improvement and commercialization of our product.

Responsibilities and tasks

  • Design platforms, interconnectors and floating systems at conceptual level.

  • Perform FEM analysis and hand calculations on our structural designs (including fatigue analysis).

  • Develop Dynamic modelling tools that can result in digital twin systems on our farm performance during its lifetime. Develop and maintain OOE’s in-house structural software.

  • Contribute to developing engineering best practices and internal design standards.

  • Improve the design and coming up with future designs of our floating system (structural components). Make it a goal to improve any structural performance with new and more cost effective designs for the future.

  • Verify outcome of numerical modelling with hand-calculations.

  • Select and use the right data management / engineering tools and software and integrate this into our existing structures.

  • Analyze measurement data from our operational systems, and integrate findings in design improvements using numerical simulation tools and (full-) scale testing.

  • Prepare model testing campaigns and post-processing the data for Oceans of Energy’s needs.

  • Involve experts and suppliers, select them and set up joint development. Guide external parties in the design of certain sub-systems / components.

  • Work together with other disciplines (i.e. Project and fabrication team) and provide Offshore Operations Team with knowledge about the system.

  • Give input on desired data you would like to gather from sea to give more confidence to your calculations. i.e. measured wave heights, measured loads etc.

  • Create documents using our numbering system, work from sharepoint drives.

  • For insights and improve your understanding sometimes go offshore or help in construction.

  • Occasionally participate in offshore inspections of our system and equipment testing, as required.
